Kelly E - I sent Andy what turned out to be the worst carbs he has done. They were full of rust and crud. The bike had sat out for over six years with water entering the airbox. It was a serious challenge. When I got the carbs back and installed them the bike started like I rode it the day before. Now it pulls really hard from just off idle to redline without any flat spots. I couldn't be happier with the carb work Andy performed. He went above and beyond dealing with an issue on one of the carbs. This summer was more fun than I have had in a long time.
Howiev65sabre - Andy made the process easy and painless. I thought sending out of the country would have been an issue. As it turns out, it was a piece of cake. Took about 4 days from Bostonto Andyland. He turned them around in a couple of days. Total time from start to finish was 10 days.
First time I open it up I could tell there was a big difference. I never drove a brand new v65 off the floor, but I think I now know what it felt like. It is crazy fast and acceleration is intense. My bike was running ok before I sent it away, but now YIKES!
Mike D - Andy did my carbs and I couldn't be happier!!! a free carb sync with a digital manometer was just icing on the cake. Thank you sir!
MotyMagna - My bf and I made the mistake of trying to rebuild the carbs ourselves. Fortunately I remembered Andy here rebuilds them. He took the disassembled mess of parts I had and returned to me completed and fully functional carbs. In the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jkQSX1DhdM you can see the carbs in the middle of my extended weekend project. He cleaned them so well they are the shiniest part on the whole bike. And once I got gas in the bike, it fired right up! I didn't have to do anything except adjust the idle. I am extremely impressed, and Andy is a total professional about the whole thing. He gave me updates as it progressed, and he even sent a sheet detailing all the adjustments and corrections he made. He also saved me money by throwing in o-rings and even saving me from having to buy new jets.
biker - No one should ever hesitate sending Andy your carburetors. I was going through the Magna, removed the Californiaemissions and came across some problems with the carburetors. I sent my carburetors to Andy in the late winter of 2017. I installed them and the motorcycle would not run for but a minute or two. I and Andy emailed back and forth and he had me go through a several test to see if the problem was with the carburetors. The problem looked to be it was getting to much fuel. Andy offered for me to send back the carburetors for so he could go through them at no charge and to put me at the head of the line. Andy also offered to send me new needles at no charge.
I keep thinking it was something that we were missing so I left the return option for the future. I was getting real frustrated and work was getting real crazy for the summer of 2017 so I let the bike sit until things at worked calmed down. Started back on it in the fall and I still had the same problems. I email Andy again. He had me do a few more test and told me the offer was still open for me to send the carburetors back to him at no charge. After viewing the test results, I sent him a video of the tests. He said “make sure that the carb bowl vent hose is not plugged too”. That was the problem. When I removed the California emissions I plugged both vacuum lines that went to the carburetors. One was was the card vent, I should not have plugged that one. It was always at the back of my head that it was something that I did to cause the problem. Andy worked with me for almost a year to figure out what the problem was. I would have given up without his encouragement and that he would continue working with me to figure out the problem. I highly recommended Andy, he’s the best. A very satisfied customer.
Dazzle - Andy's carb rebuild was great! My 2017-18 winter project to restore a 87 Magna I purchased outside of Clevelandfrom a guy who purchased in a church rummage sale. When the weather finally broke in Pittsburghthis week got the bike out for a spin, although a couple of issues to iron out the carbs performed wonderfully. Thanks, Andy
Blackened - Turned my lame-ass Magna into a bad-ass Magna. Thanks Andy for all of the help with her over the last 5 years and for the amazing carb work you did. Bike runs great!
amshthndr - I had someone local do the carbs that ended up being a joke. The choke never really worked, impossible to sync, and a damaged airbox (prior to local guy). Andy got them and cleaned them up, fixed some bent linkages, missing spacers, and repaired the airbox. When I got the carbs back I dropped them in and it didn't hesitate to start. For the first time I didn't have to kill the battery turning it over to start because the choke ACTUALLY WORKED! Don't bother with ebay carbs or trusting someone on a whim. You look to Andy as an expert here so let the expert take care of them. It'll be worth the cost including shipping.
KMcCluskey- My personal testament to Andy's good work. He has offered me nothing in exchange for this opinion. I sent him the carbs from my '84 V65 magna this spring. Communication was excellent throughout the process. There was an issue with one of my diaphragms, which aren't supposed to be repairable. I was going to have him order a new set, then he came back with an offer to attempt a repair for $25 using his OEM parts bin. He was able to fix it, saving me over $100 and a couple weeks of wait time. The return shipment came in 4 days to St. Louisarea. Included was a comprehensive checklist, installation advice, and O-rings for the coolant crossover tubes, which he advised I replace because they love to start leaking right after you reinstall carbs. Since my name is practically Murphy, I followed his advice. I softened the boots and install went pretty well. I cycled the key a few times and the bike fired right up. All I did was adjust the idle speed down once I got the engine hot.
Low end torque (3K-4K) much improved, as is the top end gush at 7k-10k. Once I'm in OD on the highway, the roll-on power is such that I never have to leave 6th gear. On country 2 lane twisties, I get to 4th and stay there pretty much most of the time. Mileage has gone from 30-32 mpg to 40 mpg. I'll admit I was just a little nervous to send the carbs to "some dude in Canada on the Internet". Andy is very professional and does a great job. When my Magna 700 needs carbs rebuilt and cleaned I will use his service again.
IowaV45 - Got my carbs back from Andy on Friday...and installed them today (Sunday). Fantastic - the bike runs and idles great - just like from the factory! I was highly impressed with Andy's attention to detail. I received pictures of my carbs and a detailed sheet with the condition they came in, what if anything was wrong, and the condition they left - very detailed. Andy also measures all jets so now I have a solid record in my owner's manual of what is going on in there. 21,000 miles and she runs like a thoroughbred! Thanks Andy!
Bumpkin - Hello Andy, Just a short update to let you know all is well. The wheels of progress turn slow around here. Finished the final assembly Saturday night with my son, added some fuel, and then watched the biggest smile emerge as the bike fired and ran beautifully. Thank you for a job well done. Your insight in many other areas found on the forum has proved invaluable in bringing this bike back to life. Next step, starting clutch rebuild... I think, (noisy in this area after starting). Will give you an update when on the road. Thanks again.
Esquilax - Really wanted to send out a big thanks to Andy! Not just for all the technical help, but also for the actual help and being honest with integrity, just got my carbs back, can't wait to find the time to get them back on(took me by surprise how fast his turnaround) glad to recommend him and his services
donwroth– Andy, I finally got around to putting the sabre back together today. I know it's been awhile but the truth be told my BMW burned out the clutch. So I kind of had to fix the saber if I wanted to keep riding. LOL Holy s*** man you are f****** brilliant. Bike turned over and started immediately and ran better than it has run since I've owned it. We're going to put about 200 to 300 miles on it next weekend headed down to the NASCAR race in Sonomaand back. I am really looking forward to it.
Again just brilliant how good it runs. It's not often that you feel like you got what you paid for but I definitely feel like I got my money's worth paying you to fix those carbs. Don.
Bumpkin - Andy has done 2 sets of carbs for me, the first one was on my sons v65, a project bike that had been sitting for a while. The second set came on another v65 that I bought this spring. This bike was non running, rusty fuel tanks, and in need of a little TLC. I knew when I purchased the bike that I would be mailing the carbs to Canada. This was not really a matter of not able to do the work myself, but picking my battles, since there were many other issues with the bike that needed my attention. While the carbs were away I adjusted valves, cleaned the rest of the fuel system, anything that would help facilitate a quick installation of the carbs when they arrived. I probably waited a little to long to reinstall the carbs on my sons bike. The connectors that Andy had softened had gotten stiffer making the re installation more difficult. Having everything ready when the carbs are shipped back allowed a quick and easy install without having to resoften the connectors. Andy was very helpful and insightful through several emails. The bike fired and ran immediately once the carbs were primed, no surprise there. I joined this forum to have access to The Carb Spa after watching some of Andys videos on You Tube. I was most impressed and felt extremely confident in his ability to help transform these projects back to the rocket ships they were designed to be. Andys service helped fast track the work so the riding could begin. I highly recommend. Thanks again Andy.
Old coon hunter - Andy, I switched carbs out yesterday... twice lol. Glad you sent spare o-rings. Somehow I damaged one on the install. Too muddy here to get out of the garage but the bike fired up with ease. And I can adjust the idle with the choke as it warms up, something I’ve never been able to do before. Smooth acceleration and a short burnout in the garage was easy and smooth. I’ll put the lowers back on and hope for better weather next weekend. Right now I’m happy, excited and full of anticipation. Thank you so much.
Vin - Great service, Andy keeps you informed ALL along the process. I keep my bikes clean but had to give it another cleaning so the carb set fresh from MagnAndy wouldn't stand out like a LED headlight. I bought this set off Ebay and was informed quickly what was not correct by email plus a hard copy report of how they were received. Short story, got the bike in 1989, got a wife in 2000, wife left in 2013, mice moved in to my cards hence the Ebay purchase. Last year I got serious about making my 84 V65 right thanks to V4 members for the guidance. Clear coat removal, 3 wire mod, etc. and MagnAndy for my carbs. I was hesitant about shipping to Canada but it is pretty simple and Andy will give you all the information you need to do it legally including how to package them for customs clearance. Thank you Andy!! Best regards, Kevin
larryl - This is my third set of carbs to be cleaned, but the first with the Carb Spa. I went into it with some trepidation - you know, Canada, and international shipping forms at the post office, worrying if they were going to hit me with customs fees either way, etc. Shipping went off without a hitch. Andy emailed me along the way with status reports and did a pretty good job at concealing his disgust at the state of the carbs. They came back looking fantastic and the bike runs better than it ever has. I got a very detailed report with before and after status of all of the key parts of the process. I highly recommend the Carb Spa. This is one of those tasks that you can try yourself, but if you really want it done right ship them to Andy.
GeorgiaV65 - Got my carbs back from the Carb Spa and man oh man are they beautiful! Thank you Andy!! Installed the carbs and the remaining parts of my refresh bike. Once I got the fuel flowing through the new lines I plugged the line into my carbs, turned her over a few times to fill the bowls, and voila, she's alive again!! Took her on a shakedown run and the jetting was spot on, instant throttle response, no stumbling, no surges. According to my dash tach, idle speed is right at 700rpm. These carbs were cleaned, corrected and set with a master's touch. Thank you Andy!
Illinoischeryl - I am going to keep it short and simple. Andy is the BOMB DIGGITY. And I sing his praises everywhere. Except Church.
sawman - Hey Andy, just want to let you know that I put my carbs back on the bike and it runs like new through the full rpm range and idles perfectly! Thank you again for the great service you provide to Magna owners.
Cachamberlain29 - A huge thank you to Andy. I tried to have my carbs done by a local mechanic who was recommended to me. What a mistake that was. After 10 months of delays, and not calling me back, and not being able to find all of the parts. I finally got a box of parts back. I contacted Andy and he said send them up and he’ll evaluate them. Even though he normally doesn’t do carbs in the summer, he said that he would. When I got them back all shiny and clean they were easy to reinstall because he softened the gaskets. After the install was completed, it started right up and runs like its brand new. I can’t wait to start riding. Thank you Andy.
lamborama - I have had issues with my 82 Magna 750 for the last two years. Just got the bike together. Connected up to the carbs and after priming the lines up - it started on the second round of the starter! Idled perfectly. After warm up it revved VERY nicely - no pops. I just took it for a 15 minute ride and came back and readjusted the idle. I have owned the bike about 10 years and it has NEVER had the power it does now - and no back pops or misses! Thanks for the CarbSpa work (Very much worth the money and time) and for all the assistance through the threads on V4 from a number of the folks. A VERY satisfied customer.
dkmassner - Another shout out to CarbSpa. Bike has ran so-so since the day I got it with a dead spot at 7k. Shipped carbs off and cleaned tanks, new fuel lines, and other minor maintenance while waiting for the return. Andy performed his magic and this thing runs like brand new!!! What great service Andy provides, can hardly wait for warmer days.
connoire - thank-you andy. I am completely flabbergasted. You cleaned, repaired and returned my carbs. When I installed them and fired the bike up it idled at 1200 rpm, puuuurfect all the way through the revs. It completely blew me away. The check list, rubber o-rings and instruction sheet was just a bonus. Your service went above and beyond. what I really expected was a bubble gum chewing, seafoam and carb cleaner holding parts replacer and/or find my carb for sale on fleebay after money was sent. what I got was top notch professional service with a personal touch. Great job Andy and Thank-you! thank-you andy. Your service went above and beyond
smug_kaguya - It has been a couple weeks of almost daily riding and... WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After Andy's carb service, it's an entirely new motorcycle. It idles perfect. It starts 99% of the time IMMEDIATELY. No more cold start issues. The bike runs so much better. It's alive, now. Guys, don't mess around with local mechanics. Send them straight to a professional who has a TON of experience with these carbs. You'll thank yourselves later. Thank you so much!!!!!!
jbird146 - These carbs look amazing! The appearance alone makes it obvious that Andy takes pride in what he is doing. The document showing all the steps, measurements, and notes makes it obvious that this service is complete and professional. I am confident this bike will run as good or better than it ever has! I cannot wait to get it all back together and down the road. The turn around was much quicker than expected too. Thank you Andy!!
X7eater - Andy did an highly professional job on my V54 Sabre carbs, they look brand new, and the bike runs way more smoother than before. It now runs like I believe it would have felt to the first owner riding it out of the showroom. Andy even including a printout showing exactly what he had changed, updated, settings etc. Highly recommended.
mpayson - Package delivered and just opened it up - wow doesn’t even begin to cut it. I can’t believe how good these carbs look and how easily everything is moving now. It’s unreal - like they’re practically new. I’m blown away with all of the detail around the work - the carb boot softening, the pre/post cleaning inspection sheet that Andy included, and he made everything smell peppermint fresh so my wife doesn’t have to smell gas in the house until I get these installed. Just an incredible attention to detail. I wouldn’t hesitate to refer a friend or ship carbs to Andy in the future - it’s a bargain for the work that he did.
Jonatan Braun BraunsAgeDesign – So this is what a Magna is supposed to feel like! It’s a rocket ship now! Pulls smooth through the whole rev range, and torque for days!
Not So Fast - Well, finally pulled the trigger after twice pulling a set of leaky carbs. Background: Bike sat when covid started. At the end of 10-15-21, bike started, but began to leak. My buddy said he'll get them to a mechanic closer to him. The guy fleece my buddy for $400 clams, and the thing smokes at the start. Went for a celebratory ride for some coffee, and it dies. Back to my house now, and after watching Andy's video series, I'm thinking, I can do this. After my attempt, which got rid of the leak, but now she'll bog at 75 or so. ok, reached out to Andy, and sent them on their way. Got them back, and I'm thinking, it's cleaner than when I sent them off. Did the precheck, and after an hour, they are back on. DAMN! What a difference. the other folks weren't kidding. Bike starts and idles easily. Revs very nice. Test rides show she'll pull and pull, like it was a showroom bike. The best outcome and worth every pennies. She no longer leaks, no white smoke on start up, and she'll purr like a content big cat; a really big cat. PS - A beneficial side effect of the Carb Spa, my garage is wintergreen happy since the carb came back. Now I have to figure out how to keep it that way, cause the boss is very happy. Thanks, Andy!! You are "Da Bomb" indeed!
Steve Riingwood - My 1984 Honda V 30 Magna "Barn-find" has been sitting since 2006. The gas was rancid and the slides were stuck, it would start and die, no idle, no revs. I sent the carbs and the rubber grommets to Andy at the CARB SPA. He did a complete tear down with an evaluation of what he found. Then he cleaned and rebuilt them to factory specs, softened the grommet for free, sent me free O rings for the coolant pipes, and coached me through the reinstallation process. When the carbs came back to me there was an "Outgoing Record " , an itemized bill which was the same amount as the initial quote. I reinstalled the carbs this morning and the bike is so smoooth! It idles where I set it, revs with no hesitation, starts instantly. Andy is a miracle worker. He saved my bike from the scrap yard. The bike has 11000 kms and is a classic. The CARB SPA is a treasure! Steve Ringwood
Ed - Hi Andy, Just a few days after picking-up the repaired carb assembly, I took my time to re-install them back into my Honda Magna. No issues whatsoever! Noticeable improvements, all-round. No leaks, no fuel odors, even on the hottest days. Runs very smoothly, I can take idle down to just below 1,000 rpm, and she stays there. Acceleration much improved at the higher RPMs. I think it runs cooler - perhaps if even one cylinder was running (way) leaner than the others before adjustments, it would have run the entire system hotter. Now it cools down much faster in garage after riding.
Fuel economy about the same, marginally better - it's not critical to me. Needless to say, she's now a real joy to drive, thanks to you, my friend. I really hope we can meet up again in the future. You are a real professional and an interesting man. Thank you, Andy !
Jhc - I recently had Andy do the carbs on a 87 Magna I was doing for a friend. Overall the bike was in very good condition but had been sitting for seven years. I am reasonably good with mechanical things but after looking at comments on the carbs and calling local shops, the decision was made to send them to Andy - a great decision! His communication from start to finish was excellent and he provided info to help me with other items. The work was done in the time quoted and the carbs looked great when they returned. I appreciated the spec/work sheet provided as part of the service. Installed the carbs and the bike started in about five seconds! Idled great and road test was great. Bike has started with no issues and is extremely smooth. I highly recommend using him for the carb work. He also
has excellent videos to help with other problems. Glad I found his site!
WestTexasWill - Beautiful work done by a master of the trade. I’ve been working on restoring a 1984 Honda vf700s Sabre. I know the carbs that were on the bike hadn’t been serviced probably since the bike was new. I think he cleaned out half the dust from west Texas. The carbs came back looking brand new. I installed them on the bike, but got side tracked with other projects and didnt get back to the carbs until a few dust storms later, totally my fault by the way, and I had allowed the fresh carbs to get dirty again. Well, I ordered a second set of carbs off of e-bay and had them shipped directly to Andy for a full restore/rebuild. He received them, tore them apart, rebuilt them and shipped them out, but due to an error, they were sent back to the dishonest original seller who insisted that they were never delivered to him. (Shipping receipt said they were). Be that as it may, Andy being a wonderful human being, went out of his way to procure, modify, clean, and send me a third set of carbs out of his own pocket. That’s service of the highest quality and I will always recommend Andy’s Carb Spa to anyone that has any doubts. The Carbs are beautiful Andy, bike starts up right off the bat first crank, full choke, no throttle. Idles at 1000+- rpm. Thank you very much. You have made a customer of me for as long as I live and you’re open for business.
Vece - It would NOT run smooth.. after removing the mouse home, and pulling the carbs an embarrassing amount of times to clean, trying everything possible to get the carbs into spec.. I decided to send them out to Andy. As clean as they “seemed” to me, he went through every nook and passage and found jets that were labeled one thing, but MEASURED something else.. found seized parts in the choke that I wouldn’t have noticed, bent pieces, and replaced anything that needed replacing, etc etc. he offered advice numerous times before having me send them out and kept in touch through the cleaning. EXCELLENT service.. the carbs came back, I changed out the o-rings in the coolant transfer tubes like he suggested, popped the carbs in and BAM.. runs like new. Very pleased!! Now I get to focus on other important straightforward maintenance and enjoy the heck out of this beautiful thing!!
red 99 - last summer I got ahold of a 99 magna that sat for YEARS untouched. long story short i tried twice to clean the carbs myself to resolve my issues, bike never ran right, fuel leaks , didn't like ANY throttle, needed constant choke , literally idled fine but impossible to ride due to carb bogging issues. I was skeptical at first but finally shipped them north of the boarder to MagnAndy , got them back and installed, the bike runs like a Rolex now... best money spent by far. Outta the box fires right up , throttle response is INCREDITABLE , idles flawlessly.... you'll be down short bit but well worth the wait. His communication and workmanship is incredible, both far better than i was expecting. Rest assured if you send them North of the boarder you wont be disappointed. THANKS again MagnAndy.......
canamag - Andy did another great job on the carbs for my interceptor, install, adjust idle speed and go . Could not ask for better service. Gary
oliver.pss - Just received my carbs back from Andy. To start: His communication was excellent. All throughout the process, I knew what was being done, when it was being done, and most importantly, WHY it was being done. Andy said "These are the worst carbs the carb spa has ever received", which I thought to be funny. A few parts ordered on my end, and some long waiting due to shipping, and I have what looks to be a border-line brand new set of carbs sitting on my bike. He even cut me some slack, as I am a student, which goes a long way, due to my shoe-string budget... Genuinely cannot recommend this service enough. Andy does phenomenal work at a fair price, and is extremely professional about everything. If the carbs are the reason your bike isn't running, Andy will make sure you'll be back on two wheels in almost no-time!
603photog - At the time of purchase, the bike would not run under even the slightest touch of the throttle. Clearly an excess of air causing it to run lean. Andy reached out with detailed shipping instructions. He confirmed receipt when they arrived and performed an initial inspection after which he provided a quote based on his findings and recommendations. Once the carbs were finished, he sent them back just as well packaged as I had sent them. He also included new o-rings for the cylinder coolant lines. The carbs were very clean and had clearly been reassembled by someone with a professional eye. Last night, I did the very first shakedown ride of the bike following her full frame-up restoration. It was about 85 degrees Fahrenheit so the bike fired right up cold with no choke. The ride was a blast, throttle response was smooth and snappy, and I had no issues whatsoever. So, this morning, I took her to work which is about 38 miles each way. Again, ran like a beast in the best possible way. Excellent throttle response all up and down the RPM band and no misses at all. Thank you, Andy, for the professional comms and service. Greatly appreciated and I'll have another set to send your way over the winter when I start tearing down my second Super for its restoration.
Bcubed - WOW!! Amazing Carb Guy! Andy did an absolutely awesome job! Holy crap! The 96 Magna is a whole new MONSTER…. Thank you so much… easily hit 100, no bogging, no hesitation. Andy, you are a miracle worker! Very, very pleased with the results! Highly recommend Andy, his work is the absolute best! Thank you, Brent
dougman - Another 110% satisfied customer here. 85 V65 Sabre. As others have mentioned, Andy’s communication is great, and his attention to detail is amazing. One of the things I like best is that he takes detailed measurements of the carbs as received, and then again, after cleaned and set to factory specs. During the rebuild, he found some nonstandard fasteners and gave me several options as far as how to replace them. Again, great communication and clearly, his expertise and experience shines.
The very best part of this whole process? I installed the carburetors and as soon as they got fuel, the bike fired right up! No miss, no fuss, no tweaking or frustration… Just gas and go. Idle is butter smooth and I swear it sounds meaner than before! My only problem is that it is winter in Michigan, temperature is near freezing, and it’s rainy, so I have to be patient until I can take my Sabre for a test ride! I also just picked up an 88 super, and I’m already planning for Andy to rebuild those carbs next winter! Thanks again, Andy - you’re an ace and a blessing to our V4 community!
dougman - Quick update - we had an unseasonably dry day and I was able to take the Sabre out for a quick rip. I thought the bike was fast before and I would have said she "ran pretty good." Now, with Andy's carb magic, the bike is a totally different animal. Instant power at any point in the power band with no hesitation. Revs freely all the way to redline. Its scary fast (and I love it!). Rebuilding the carbs is the absolute best thing I have done for my bike.
